I teach composition in both individual and group settings. Students learn about composing music by composing music: preparing pieces for music festivals and recitals as well as working on projects for chamber ensembles, choirs, etc.
In summer 2018, I will be leading a series of Composition Clubs in Ottawa ON and Victoria BC. Club members will learn what it’s like to be a composer: tapping into creative potential, collaborating with other student musicians to create compositions for them to perform, and learning how to give positive and constructive feedback to fellow student composers. In most cases, the Clubs will be taught in combination with music theory instruction, or will have theory prerequisites, since knowledge of theory is essential to much of what composers do.
